If the house gets a cat, will our mouse problem go away?

Our house has mice. We would like fewer mice. No mice, in fact! We hope to reach our goal by hiring adopting a cat early next year, after the allergic house member moves out.

The housemate should be moved out by end of February. If no cat by the end of March, this market resolves N/A.

Otherwise, this market resolves YES if by close our mouse problem is greatly improved/close to gone (status quo: sightings weekly, sometimes daily).

This market resolves NO if we still have regular (at least once every other week) mouse sightings/evidence of mouse occupation (droppings, etc.).

Other considerations: we are attempting to improve/alter house habits RE: things like leaving dishes in the sink, food on the stove/ground, and so on that could be contributing to the problem. We have semi-regular exterminator visits, but they haven't seemed to have done much from my PoV. (Other housemates make stronger positive claims about effectiveness.) Happy to answer questions, if any. I am NOT looking for a causal relationship between "more cat" and "less mouse," just a correlative one.

Betting policy: I will bet in this market, and will provide regular updates on the state of mouse affairs once we reach the critical period of March through May.

Hey everyone--sorry for the N/A. In the time since I wrote this market I've heavily reduced the time I spend on Manifold, and I don't really want to "provide regular updates on the state of mouse affairs once we reach the critical period of March through May," so I figured I should bow out sooner rather than later.
