It now appears that the answer to this was 'to allow him to draw out his ascension long enough to channel Erecura's power into Silmarils before it completed', which...uh...doesn't really seem to be any of these : 🤣

@josh If I reaaaally stretch it I can try to argue that 'to prevent him from being clericed by some entity' (a position I coincidentally happen to hold shares in) feels similar...nah, you're right, N/A is probably reasonable in the absence of an explicit 'something else' answer.
