Some brief research shows all elections post 2000 except 2020 were called by Fox before 4am.

What about 2004, the other recent close election? Couldn't find when Fox News made the call but other networks waited until the early morning. Also, mail ballots are now 30-40% of the total vote compared to 10% in 2004.

Great question. I’ll say by 4 am ET the call has to have been made to allow for things to go into the night. Anything after that is the next day.
