This market predicts whether Amazon will announce layoffs in any department before August 15, 2025. Resolution will be based on official announcements from Amazon or credible news sources.
Currently there is a rumor that there will be layoffs on August 7th, and August 14th
Update 2025-08-08 (PST) (AI summary of creator comment): Timing requirement clarified: Layoffs must be announced after the market was created (August 6th at 11pm) to count toward resolution. The Amazon Wondery podcast division layoffs announced on August 6th at 10am occurred before this market was created and therefore do not qualify.
Update 2025-08-08 (PST) (AI summary of creator comment): Mass layoffs defined as affecting more than one department.
Update 2025-08-08 (PST) (AI summary of creator comment): - Layoffs counted refer to company-announced headcount reductions (RIFs), not performance-based terminations (URA/PIP).
Looking for mass cuts in headcount in Amazon's corporate division; the early 2023 layoffs are an example of what qualifies.
In Washington state, qualifying layoffs would likely have WARN Act notices; these can serve as evidence.

@bashmaester I assume it’s to differentiate it from the laying off of individuals, or of a specific person and their assistants/DRs.
@guattari What about specific quantities? It looks like Amazon has over 1.5 million employees. Laying off just 1% would be over 10,000. I wouldn't be surprised if they lay off hundreds of people every week.
@jessald most firings go through PIP or other performance based analysis. I’m particularly looking for mass cuts in head count in Amazons corporate division. We would expect this to include WARN act notices being published if the lay offs happened in washington state where Amazon is headquartered.
The early 2023 layoffs are an example of this happening. Not normal URA/PIP firings.
@guattari your definition requiring more than one department is in direct contradiction to your description and I would consider it a misresolution if you added that requirement now.
@guattari you said “in any department”. If you changed your mind, you should N/A this via mods and make a new market.
@Panfilo actually it happened before this market was created
