After 2024 (or never)

I've spent the last few months building an MVP for a new pay-per-match dating app called Paper Match. As of January 1st 2024, v1.0.0 has been released for both Android and the web.

However, the iOS release is stuck at a previous version in TestFlight, and Apple has rejected my five most recent attempts to release a new build.

Although the feedback has varied slightly, the main reason for their refusal stems from section 4.3 of their App Store Review Guidelines:

"Also avoid piling on to a category that is already saturated; the App Store has enough fart, burp, flashlight, fortune telling, dating, drinking games, and Kama Sutra apps, etc. already. We will reject these apps unless they provide a unique, high-quality experience."

As of market creation I've already appealed this ruling to the App Review Board (with the basic claim that Paper Match "provides a unique, high-quality experience").

All choices refer to the end of the relevant day, US Central Time Zone (so "Q1 2024" means before March 31st, 2024, 23:59 CT).

I'm planning to initially subsidize the After 2024 (never) option to incentivize bettors to help out, but won't otherwise bet on the market. If you just want to try the app and have any feedback, email info@papermat.ch or file an issue, thanks!

Looks like Google may be forced to do app side loading. Let's go, apple! https://www.ft.com/content/e7f7c7d6-79b4-4de4-aa4b-f656546a91ca

@RuthGraceWong but Google already does side loading. I literally have at least 7 apps sideloaded right now. I didn't understand why they would be fined regarding side loading and I'm not going to pay to read the article. Are they arguing that it's too hard to download an APK and install it? Is it specifically that there's no great competitor to the Google Play Store?
