As an update, it turns out that I will be out of town for the upcoming concert anyways, so I'm postponing my audition until early 2024.

Defer to Max whether to resolve early or not.

For context, it is a volunteer audition orchestra in the Bay Area. They let one play with the orchestra for a few weeks prior to auditioning. The section leader of the 2nd violins said that he would pick a few excerpts from the music for me to play along with potentially some unaccompanied Bach (which I do have on hand).

My subjective experience is that most everyone in the orchestra is a better player than I am, but at least in the back of the 2nd violins it is not to a mind-blowing degree.

It's not clear to me how many "seats" they have open and how many players are auditioning for these seats.
