As a response to the 2025 Bondi beach massacre, the Australian government has put forward a draft bill on hate speech and gun laws, and recalled parliament to debate and vote on the bill in the week of Jan 19th–23rd.
This market resolves YES if the Combatting Antisemitism, Hate and Extremism Bill 2026 passes both the Australian House of Representatives and Senate, with or without amendments, before the end of January 2026, local time in Canberra.
Amendments are acceptable, but an amendment entirely removing either the gun laws or hate speech section will not count - both parts must pass for this market to resolve YES. Exception: if an amended bill removing one of these sections passes, and then another bill covering the other section also passes both houses before the end of January, that will count. Likewise if the bill is otherwise split in two that are passed separately, this will count, as long as both are passed by the end of January.
