The current president is Ranil Wickremesinghe. He was made president by parliament in 2022 after the previous president, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, fled the country and resigned due to mass protests.
Wickremesinghe has been Sri Lanka's prime minister several times and is a veteran politician, though is also widely seen as "an ally of the Rajapaksa government."
