Experimental/industrial band Xiu Xiu is on tour and will be playing in SF on May 5! I'm free that night and have ben a fan of their music for a while so I'd really love to go.
REASONS FOR NO:
I really do not know how to explain Xiu Xiu to my parents without making them concerned for my mental state.
They will want to know the name of the band, and then will likely listen to the music out of curiosity, and then they will think I am weird / will be concerned for my mental state, and I care a bit too much about their opinion of me
I can't not tell them that I'm going to a concert, because it starts at 9pm, and it would be weird to tell them I'm going out with friends that late if it weren't for a concert.
Small chance of parents saying no if I end up asking to go because I have AP exams the week after (unlikely though, because it's a Friday night)
REASONS FOR YES:
If I go, I would be going with ~2 friends + a friend of one of the friends who are all also into Xiu Xiu, so it will be less weird because I'm going as part of a group of 4, and maybe my mom will think that "this is what the kids these days are into"
Tickets are super cheap, and I can buy tickets the day of the show at only a slightly higher price, so I can make the decision about going any time before May 5 without worrying about tickets being sold out or anything
It would be very fun

@AlQuinn Your comments are excellent. Anyway, I'm currently leaning towards not going, partially because I am no longer experiencing FOMO regarding the concert, and also because of a few other reasons that are completely unrelated to parental judgment
Tell them you’re going to something a friend recommended but that your friend said “trust me, it’s awesome” without elaborating. The friend piqued your interest and you’re only young once.
Plausible deniability. Also, I think Western societies have had sneaking out to concerts as a rite of passage for a while now - if your parents are self-aware, they’ll get it.
