This photo was taken less than 3 years ago. Can you figure out where?
This market will resolve YES for multiple answers: The correct continent, correct country, closest city, and closest landmark. Other valid guesses will resolve NO. The market will resolve early if and when (some time after) I spot the correct nearby landmark in the answers.
Valid guesses must belong to one of the following categories, with increasing specificity:
Continent - eg. "Continent: North America"
Country - eg: "Country: USA"
Closest city - eg. "City: Washington"
Closest landmark - eg. "Landmark: White House"
Please follow the format given in the examples, with "Category: Geographic name", so that there is less ambiguity.
I am not asking for exact coordinates. A coordinate answer will resolve NA, as well as any other answers I deem invalid. Also, villages, towns and municipalities do not count as cities, and will resolve NA. Check Wikipedia for whether it is deemed a city or not.
Hope this will be more of a challenge, @retr0id ;)
First Hint:
This video was recorded in the same country:
Second Hint:
This video was also recorded in the same country, within 50 km of the original picture:
Third Hint:
Here's another picture taken within 50km of the original picture:
Fourth and final hint:
This is very close to the original picture:
Well played ehsquared for finding the correct landmark!
The original picture was captured right at the entrance of Altun Ha. The buildings in the background can be seen at a distance in this 360 image on Google Maps.
@traders I'd love to hear your feedback on this market. I think the hints could be fun aspect for some of you, but at the same time they also favor those who happen to be online when I post. I also think I should incentivize adding answers (or at least correct ones :P). What are your thoughts?
@arbitrary i don't think the hints advantaging people who are online is a problem, because it only advantages them against the AMM, and it doesn't change your betting incentives if you assume you will not see the hint until after it's priced in.
I found a TikTok (https://www.tiktok.com/@nurserack/video/7266601887548345642) that seems to match the last hint. Based on their adjacent videos, I'm guessing this is Altun Ha.
@retr0id It was just from Google Lens' reverse image search. Apparently it can compare images against videos as well, which surprised me.
@traders I just uploaded a video hint :) I'm planning on adding one hint per day until it's solved or the market time is up
@arbitrary : I'm guessing this is the YucatΓ‘n Rust Rump Tarantula (https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/264093-Brachypelma-epicureanum).
