Zach Lowe was just laid off from ESPN:

ESPN has parted ways with NBA senior writer Zach Lowe as part of the network’s continuing layoffs, sources briefed on the decision told The Athletic on Thursday.

Lowe’s salary, which was in excess of seven figures annually, was the biggest factor in ESPN’s decision.

"Next employment" markets can be tricky to define and often lead to edge cases. I'm not aiming to have a legalistic definition here, so bettors beware (but feel free to ask questions if there are any scenarios I can clear up in advance).

  • This market will resolve based on an official announcement and/or consensus credible reporting.

  • "Independent" is a somewhat flexible umbrella category. E.g. if he starts his own podcast, even if it's nominally part of some podcast network, it would likely resolve to "Independent", rather than "Other", because I wouldn't consider that to be an actual employer. In general, "any professional affiliation with X" isn't enough for it to resolve to X, it needs to be a primary professional relationship.

    • Already that's too much legalese for this market—I intend to follow the intuitive "spirit of the market", not a precise definition.

  • The close date can be extended until we hear an announcement.
