Within one week, will someone in the comments be able to convince me why Destiny is such a big deal on manifold?

NO

I have no idea why Destiny is such a big presence on this site or why Destiny has such an apparently dedicated fan base at all.

I want someone to explain to me why this is, how it happened, and why we should care what Destiny thinks in the comments.

I'm not a hater. Just ignorant and a touch confused by Destiny's ardent fan base after what I could glean from a google search and Wikipedia articles.

The market will close in a week. I won't bet on it. I want to believe, but I'm probably a hair biased towards this market resolving "no."

Also, this market will close in a week regardless of whether I'm already convinced.

Destiny fans have a large presence on Manifold presumably in large part due to Manifold having a sponsorship agreement with Destiny.

Manifold users can redeem a 1-month subscription for Ṁ1,000 to Destiny's website destiny.gg which normally costs $5. That's gives a strong incentive for Destiny fans to participate on Manifold since they can buy something "real" with Mana.

Destiny also has participated in a couple of Events sponsored by Manifold, so more of his fans hear of Manifold that way aswell.

Obviously having a lot of questions about Destiny now also reinforces the participations of Destiny fans.

As to the second question, you obviously do not need to care at all, most Destiny related questions are incomprehensible to people who aren't in Destiny's community anyways.

predicted YES

@TonyBaloney Can you share your current thoughts? Is this enough or are you unconviced on some issue?

@Peter1

Hey Peter. Good question. I feel like I now understand destiny’s connection to manifold, but I still don’t know why people care about destiny, which was part of the market. You’re answer that I don’t have to care so far doesn’t quite satisfy the terms, though it may be true. My knowledge of destiny is this: he’s a twitch streamer-cum-neoliberal activist. I’m not arguing that there’s anything wrong with this, but I’m still surprised by the interest people have in him. To the point that they’d either spend $5 a month or decide that it’s better to spend 1k mana for month long access to his podcast then give $10 to charity. Again, not criticizing this choice, but I don’t understand it. Basically, I want something from a fan’s perspective. Ie, there are many, many seemingly celebrities and micro celebrities who seem run of the mill at first glance, I want to know why people who follow Destiny think he’s not run of the mill.

@TonyBaloney Sorry, I composed a very lengthy comment that disappeared when I hit send. I don't have it in me to write it all again right now, and I've been reminded once again of the the lesson I've learned too many times before that long posts should be copied to a local document before submission.
