Resolution criteria
This market will resolve to “Yes” if Eric Adams officially registers as a Republican candidate for the 2025 New York City mayoral election. Verification will be based on official announcements from the New York City Board of Elections or Adams’ campaign. If Adams does not register as a Republican candidate, the market will resolve to “No”.
Background
Eric Adams, the incumbent mayor of New York City, was elected as a Democrat in 2021. In April 2025, following the dismissal of federal corruption charges against him, Adams announced his intention to seek re-election as an independent candidate, bypassing the Democratic primary. (cnbc.com) As of June 27, 2025, there is no indication that Adams has registered or plans to register as a Republican candidate for the upcoming mayoral election.
Considerations
The deadline for changing party affiliation for the 2025 mayoral election was February 14, 2025. Since this date has passed, Adams would need to obtain authorization from the Republican Party to appear on their line. Without this authorization, he cannot run as a Republican candidate while being a registered Democrat. (cityandstateny.com)
In recent weeks, reports have circulated that some Republican-leaning donors are exploring the possibility of persuading Curtis Sliwa—currently the Republican nominee—to exit the race. This would potentially open a path for Adams to run on the Republican line, which these donors believe could increase the chances of defeating progressive challenger Zohran Mamdani in the general election.
