The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final was played on 18 January 2026. Senegal won the game 1-0 on extra time and was awarded the trophy, but on 17 March 2026 the Confederation of African Football Appeal Board ruled Senegal had infringed Article 82 and declared Morocco the champions. Senegal has announced it will appeal the decision in front of the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne.

Senegal has a credible case, since the referee explicitly permitted play to continue and there's historical precedent of the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruling against the Confederation of African Football in a similar case on 2019.

The trophy is currently inside a military facility in Senegal.
