Background
The Dutch frequency imbalance market allows home battery owners to earn money by helping balance the electrical grid. Battery owners can participate by charging when there's excess power and discharging when there's a shortage. The economic viability of batteries in the Netherlands is improving due to decreasing battery costs and increasing market revenues.
Resolution Criteria
This market will resolve based on the average annual return in euros that a typical residential battery system purchasable in 2025 (20 kWh capacity, with solar panels but no ev charger: PV) earns from participating in the Dutch frequency imbalance market during the calendar year 2028.
Returns will be based on https://onbalansmarkt.com/resultaten .
@StephanHeijl This website shows monthly average prices. So to get the outcome we add up all the profits for all months in 2028?
The website mentions four types of batteries: pv, laadpaal, beide, geen. Which is used for this market?
@Sqeedee Yes, this will be the average return of a battery system over the whole of 2028.
The different installation types indicate whether the owner has solar panels, an ev charger, both or none.
For the purposes of this market I believe the "PV" category (only solar panels) is the most common scenario and thus the most appropriate.
