The Lakers lead Denver by only 2.0 games. If the Lakers go 2-4 and the Nuggets go 4-2, they tie. Because the Lakers have clinched the Pacific Division, they hold a tiebreaker advantage, but with two games against the #1 and #2 seeds remaining, their 3rd seed is statistically "not safe."

Denver is now clearly favored to earn the 3 seed, though must finish with a better record across the final four games compared to the Lakers to do so given the later holds the tiebreaker. Lakers technically have the easier remaining schedule, but of course are down Reaves and Luka and the toughest games for Denver are versus OKC and SA for the last two games of the season where there is a high chance of resting their starters
