Will blocking myself from Social media reduce my phone time?

Resolved
YES

My favorite social media platform offers the option to suspend users accounts for a specified time if they themselves choose so. During that time Pictures and Video are still visible but not the comment section where all the fun happens.

Will I spend less time on the phone if I do that for a week?

Background:

I am trying to debug myself -as I always do- to find more joy and meaning in life.

I tend to be overwhelmed a lot and passive leisure time, like watching TV, playing single-player games and hanging around on social media, seems to be my goto resolution. I guess this is part of my mental-health problem.

I always tried to train myself to use a more productive response and had some success (e.g. regular exercise), but maintenance is constantly required and mentally expensive.

Resolution criteria:

  • YES if the cumulative screen time my tracking-app shows me is significantly less than that of last weeks market: https://manifold.markets/Schwabilismus/how-mich-time-will-i-spend-in-the-p?r=U2Nod2FiaWxpc211cw

  • NO if the number is roughly the same.

  • "Significantly" and "roughly" will be judged by me, based on my feelings about the outcome. I guess if I save an hour a day that would count as significant.

  • Market will resolve at 11 am UTC+1 on Monday 18th March, exactly one week after the number from the previous market is up.

Market criteria:

  • I will take part in this market at the beginning but will not buy or sell after my initial purchase.

  • I will regularly post screenshots of the tracking app, just like in last weeks market

Updates:

  • I reinstalled the app to reset the time

  • See comments for resolution. Tldl: it came out to about 47 hours as opposed yo 58 from last week. So I'd say that this resolves as YES

Summa sumarum:

@Schwabilismus so with 40 Minutes less this would be 46:40 but that doesn't matter too much.

@Schwabilismus this is more than ten hours less, so this resolves YES.

Monday. But since i am Lage (12:10 UTC +1) we'll habe to subtract about 40 Minutes.

Sunsay. I think I am having a depressive phase again. You can see that I have a disrupted sleep from 3:45 onwards. I tried to fall back asleep but couldn't until around 5:45.

Catching up on missed sleep during daytime and going to the gym for half an hour made me feel better but that went away after a short while.

Anyways: tomorrow I will post the total screentime which will resolve this market.

Saturday:

I came home at 21:00. feeling empty inside. I think i might be in for another depressive episode. Hope it won't last too long.

Friday

I still spend an awful lot of time on the phone, but at least I am doing stuff like Duolingo and Manifold and/or reading blogs and news rather than just looking at pictures of cats.

Wednesday:

Tuesday:

@Schwabilismus this is an hour more than last week. So yeah, there seems to be a lot of fluctuation.

Monday:

@Schwabilismus that is one hour less than last weeks Monday. Good sign?

@Schwabilismus Sounds like one !

For some reason blockers don’t do a great job with me (at least subjectively evaluated), but I’m glad it works for you

@Mich subjectively they don't work for me neither. That's why I want to collect some "objective" data.

And it is ON!

I have been on the phone for a whooping 58 hours, last week.

Let's see if this intervention has an immediate impact on that.

@Schwabilismus it says "8 days", here bc I started it counts this Monday and last weeks Monday as full days.

Does “I will take part in this market” mean you’ll be free to bet however you like, buying either yes or no shares and selling them if you want to ?

bought Ṁ100 YES

@Mich i bought 100 yes and am not going to buy or sell until i resolve the market. This is just for me to register a prediction.
