Resolves YES even if the order is blocked by a court, or rescinded 15 minutes after being issued

  • Update 2025-02-04 (PST) (AI summary of creator comment): Full shutdown/defunding required: The executive order must result in the complete shutdown of the Department of Education by fully defunding it.

    • Partial defunding does not count: If any functions of the Department remain intact or are transferred to another agency, the market will resolve as NO.

If he instructs congress to come up with a plan to shut it down, would this count?
(Such an instruction would not, afaik, have any legal ~power)

@Fay42 It would not

Does defunding it count?

@SaiVazquez Yes, but only if the department is fully defunded. The plan referred to in the below NY Post article would not count:

"Under the potential executive order, certain functions written explicitly into statute would remain at the Department of Education while some programs would be moved to other agencies, according to the outlet. "

If the EO does not fully shut down the Department of Education, this market resolves NO.

Picking up traction in higher quality sources now, but this proposed EO doesn't seem like it will actually shut down the department
