Will my pigeon rescue (from the street) be able to fly again?

YES
  • We rescued this pigeon two days ago, we named her Cali and she's temporarily living in our apartment.

  • We took her because we noticed that her left wing is missing its long feathers, and as a result she lost the ability to fly (when she tries, she goes leftward/circular, since her right wing is good). She was also in a dangerous place where we've seen pigeons smashed intentionally by hoomans 🦍, and she would not survive like this in the street.

  • This question resolves YES if she recovers and can fly again, and resolves NO otherwise.

  • Her wing is not broken, there is no blood, she appears to mainly be missing feathers which may regrow. It's possible she is moulting.

  • If she can fly again she will be reintroduced to the wild.

  • I will try to post photo/video updates of her wing, and hop/flight attempts.

  • I will not bet in this market.

@Reality good job! Happy for you

@Reality This makes me so happy

her wing has regrown significantly. Every day she also trains her muscles by flapping her wings without flying. I’ve noticed that her small fly tests are improving.

I'd like to give you a few recommendations, as I've heroically saved baby pigeons in the past (I only say this to brag).

1. Bread is not a good idea, extra-fine green peas are fine.

2. Newspaper under the pigeon favorite places will save you cleaning time.

3. Pigeons like to sleep in a heightened place to be protected from predators (on top of a tall piece of furniture?).

4. Feathers grow back, but I think it can take up to three months.... I'm not sure about that.

5. One day it'll land on your head, you'll have to seize this opportunity for a unique selfie.

Ok ive just heard from a pigeon-lady with 13 pigeons that typically moulting does not lead them to lose the ability to fly.
