The last time I was in the Alps, I was surprised to meet quite a few US Americans. But that was in Italy. From May 30th to June 5th, I'll be hiking and biking in the Austrian Alps.

On which days - if at all - will I hear people speaking US English?

@Primer Americans at breakfast

Some Norwegians, but otherwise not many people on the trail after the rain. Another No. Today also none so far, I'd be surprised if I'd meet Americans back at the hotel.

May 30:

Americans in the hotel lobby, having coffee

May 31:

Mountainbiking, met only very few people at all, no Americans

June 1:

Brits, but no Americans

June 2:

Change of accomodation. Many families here now, heard mostly German, some Italian, no English

Rainy day ahead, we might stay at the hotel on June 3 and hopefully spend June 4 on ebikes.

Might be hard to tell if the English is US English.

@AlanTennant We'll recognize the cowboy hats and stars and stripes clothing. Only half joking, we saw both of these 2 years ago in South Tyrol.

When in doubt we might just ask. But Brits are easy to tell apart, plus they don't go into the mountains anyways. Aussies are easy as well. We only ever had trouble recognizing South Africans, but that shouldn't move probabilities much.
