Will I use ChatGPT or other “AI” this year?

YES

I have yet to directly use ChatGPT, Dall-E, mid journey, etc, at all. Before the end of the year will I use some sort of consumer direct AI Chatbot or tool?

Im not counting indirect means (like manifolds market cover image, or even something along the lines of this person does not exist). Asking someone to directly try/input something for me will count however.

Still haven’t used ChatGPT, but I used the Cruise self driving taxi service

@PhatFree How was it? I've been wanting to try it too

@firstuserhere They only just expanded the map to include my home, it sometimes was going quite slow, 10+mph under speed limit and speed of traffic. It took a more difficult route because it wanted to avoid left turns, even if they turns we’re protected, and it slowed down quite hardly once in the middle of an intersection. But generally a smooth ride, and did have to drive down busy 6th street at night and was quite impressed how it maneuvered around a double parked car, and pedestrians crowds

Define "AI." If you use social media, an AI algorithm controls what you see, to give you content you want to click on. You have almost certainly been exposed to something called "AI" if you are on the internet at all, even a simple google search is based on an AI algorithm. Maybe you should specifically make it a Transformer model? (That's all the examples you gave)

@ShadowyZephyr Direct to consumer LLM/ visually generative NN. Im considering recommendation algorithms, or say the Apple image pipeline as indirect means.

@PhatFree Keyphrase “consumer direct AI Chatbot or tool?”

@PhatFree Yeah that's fair, because if you use face unlock on your phone, or use google search, etc, then it's AI exposure. So, you've not tried any of bard, chatGPT, etc yet? What about character.ai, where you can talk to fictional characters and they respond as the character would

@firstuserhere I know I have general AI exposure, but this market is really for this AI wave that has followed Dall-E ChatGPT, and similar products/projects. I have no tried any chat bot, etc yet. I have no tried that and I’m not super interested, I can’t think of any character I would want to talk to, not the largest fiction fan

Hi all, would you consider an autonomous taxi (cruise https://getcruise.com) a direct to consumer AI tool? I have yet to get a ride to the absurd area and hours they operate in Austin, but I’m planning on trying it out

@PhatFree Oh I've heard about them. I don't know the system they use, but I would think all that machine learning has to fall under "AI"

@firstuserhere I think it should resolve yes if I do, but I haven’t because the service area Austin is crap

predicted YES

It is just one click away. Come on, it is not going to hurt you...

Last I heard I needed to sign up for an account or something. I also can’t use them to co-write code for my job (for legal reasons). I tried to do the Bing one last week, but It also wanted me to have an account. Not sure what I’d do with it or ask it so I haven’t been actively seeking any direct AI program/tool for the time being.

@PhatFree use poe.com, you will be able to use many of these LLMs with a single click for google account login

@PhatFree and stuff like midjourney can be quite fun to play with. For example, my profile pics are always generated by it.

It's really nice to create a bit of art to supplement every day conversations. I was talking to my mom and she mentioned that my dad was doing some office work and in like 10 seconds I sent this very nice picture created by midjourney v5 and she was very surprised to see how realistic it looks

And the other day my partner was reading a book on the bed and I got this pic to supplement the conversation. This sort of stuff adds a depth to the conversation which i really like

These are images generated from very simple prompts, just saying what you want to do in plain english. It is really useful when you want to convey vibes or wanna show something that's hard to depict in words.

Here's a "Jeff using chatGPT for the first time" (first attempt) pic generated by midjourney:

@firstuserhere Thank you for the nice write up, glad you’re finding use for them, however I remain mostly apathetic to AI tools for the time being. I understand their revolutionary capabilities and I do think they’re really cool, but I’m still not feeling a strong urge to use any of the tools right now 🤷‍♂️

@PhatFree Apathetic towards using the tools myself*

@PhatFree Internet is one of the most revolutionary tech of all of human history. The vast potential of your impact or potential to learn just increased so much more with it. Now, is using internet an essential part of life? No, but using it is extremely helpful to actually do the things you want to do. You can use ChatGPT to do a lot of the monotonous work that you do, and free yourself to do what you really care about

@Dreamingpast Also it's hard to imagine someone enjoying Football or Call of Duty, unless they've actually played those things. It's hard to enjoy doing things you've never done before. So, maybe you're just missing out on the excitement because you've not really tried it.

@Dreamingpast @PhatFree also it would be very helpful if you could give a broad idea about what kind of job or hobbies or things you like are

@Dreamingpast @PhatFree have you never tried out a software that didn't "excite" you before using iy

@Dreamingpast I can’t use it for my job for legal reasons, I could use it for some personal programming projects, but I haven’t gotten around to working on them. Otherwise I like spending time outdoors, cooking, playing games and taking photos on film & digital cameras.

@PhatFree If you feel like your list of recipes is overused you could try listing off what you like to eat/cook and asking for other dish ideas

@JimHays Not a bad idea, but I also am not sure it would give out good recipes, have people tried it?

predicted YES

@PhatFree I saw someone try to get a specific recipe out (not sure if it was plain ChatGPT or GPT-4), and it was ok, but needed some modification. I was thinking more of a brainstorming partner for recipe ideas though, then you would go find the actual recipe to use elsewhere

@PhatFree ooh interesting! I clicked this photograph yesterday, sharing as you are into cameras!

Joking ofc. The prompt i used on midjourneyv5 was **focus on red autumn leaves with a orange red sunset with strong colours in the background --v 5**

I was hanging out with some friends outdoors, cooking and eating when i made that image

Man it was a good day.

Here's me making sure the cam settings are right

so that i don't have it running on the back of my mind as i make my Crème Brûlée

@firstuserhere and i suck at prompting Midjourney and it is still so good, I'm amazed every time we can just generate all this stuff .. like wow (its been 5 years of me going wow but ... It only seems to accelerate!)

@PhatFree sure you can't write code but you can generate documentation for files with the click of a button!

@firstuserhere I’m not sure what this is supposed to do for me? I enjoy the social aspects and intricacies of photography. Taking photos of friends and family, and seeing the smile on their face when I share with them. I setting up a shot, to a certain degree playing with the complex machine that is a camera, seeing the affect aperture, film speed, and shutter speed have on my photographs. It’s usually about the process not the end result.

@Dreamingpast Unfortunately I cannot! I work on the standards team, doing proof of concept development, and specification writing. I’m told we cannot use LLM for any step in this for legal reason.
