It appears the Republicans have collectively boxed themselves in. It is a big leap for McHenry to cross the aisle hat in hand, but half a century ago, mature politicians did such things regularly. We all have purple shirts this season!

Question will Resolve immediately after a new Speaker is chosen. If necessary, year-end cutoff will be extended. Please note the words at least, so multiple values may resolve to YES. If Republicans go it alone and successfully choose a Speaker, all answers resolve NO.

Clarification: As one savvy investor highlighted to me (thank you, Rick Jacobus!), the first successful election may slide into the next Congressional term, in which case the year-end cutoff date will have been extended, as originally provided for. Please consider that scenario in your thinking.

Have at it!

@RickJacobus Thsnk you for highlighting this scenario! It is quite a shift in paradigm from what I was thinking when I made the question, but to be fair, given that I made no N/A resolution options but did allow for extension of deadline, I would resolve based on the first successful placement of a new House Speaker this term or the next.

You are right to raise the notion of Democrats taking back the House, if not due to Biden coattails, then due to extensive redistricting of state voting maps by court cases late this year. Best of luck!

What would be the resolution if no speaker is elected in this term and democrats win the house and elect the next speaker?
