Resolution criteria
This market will resolve to YES if New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani attends at least one official match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in person.
The market will resolve to NO if he does not attend any official matches in person by the conclusion of the tournament on July 19, 2026.
Evidence of attendance: Unambiguous proof of physical attendance inside a stadium during an active, official tournament match must be established via credible journalistic reports (e.g., Associated Press, The New York Times, local TV news), official press releases from the NYC Mayor's Office (nyc.gov), or photographs/videos posted on his official verified social media accounts.
Excluded events: Attending World Cup-related promotional events, trophy tours, fan zones, watch parties, or press conferences does not count as attending a match. He must be physically present inside the stadium during an official tournament game.
Background
Zohran Mamdani, an avid soccer fan and Arsenal supporter, was sworn in as the 112th Mayor of New York City on January 1, 2026. Ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which runs from June 11 to July 19, 2026, Mamdani’s administration has heavily promoted the tournament. Notably, the Mayor negotiated a first-of-its-kind program with FIFA and the NYNJ Host Committee to secure 1,000 discounted $50 match tickets for local residents via a public lottery. He also established a citywide $26 "World Cup meal deal" restaurant program. Because multiple matches are being hosted locally at MetLife Stadium (referred to as New York New Jersey Stadium for the event), traders will watch to see if the Mayor makes a stadium appearance.
