Resolution criteria

  • Scope: Resolves based on the next Standard Hearthstone expansion released after market creation. Only the 145-card launch set counts; later mini-sets, Core, Tavern Brawl, Battlegrounds, Twist, and Duels do not. Primary source is the official Card Library filtered to that expansion. Secondary sources are the expansion’s announcement post and its launch patch notes. Card Library; example announcement; example launch patch notes. (hearthstone.blizzard.com)

  • “Reno is referenced or is his own card” — YES if any collectible card in the set has “Reno” in its English name (e.g., “Reno, …” or “… Reno’s …”), he is included in the art, or the effect is similar to any of his past cards (hearthstone.blizzard.com)

  • “Paladin gets another Murloc card” — YES if the set includes at least one collectible Paladin-class minion with Tribe/Type: Murloc. Neutral Murlocs or Paladin spells that generate Murlocs. Verify via class=Paladin + Tribe=Murloc filters in the Card Library. Card Library. (hearthstone.blizzard.com)

  • “We get a new hero card” — YES if the set includes any collectible card with Card Type: Hero. Verify via Card Type=Hero filter in the Card Library. Card Library. (hearthstone.blizzard.com)

  • “We get a new secret spell card” — YES if the set includes any collectible spell with the Secret mechanic (any class). Verify via Mechanic=Secret + expansion filter in the Card Library. Card Library. (hearthstone.blizzard.com)

  • “A new ‘infinite’ effect card (like Kil’Jaeden, Pally Quest)” — YES if a card’s printed rules text creates a repeatable, game-long effect with no stated cap (e.g., “for the rest of the game …” that enables unbounded resource/trigger generation without additional deckbuilding requirements). If no card clearly meets this, this answer resolves by a 72-hour community poll listing the candidate cards after release. Verify via Card Library text and the expansion’s announcement/patch notes. Card Library; example announcement; example launch patch notes. (hearthstone.blizzard.com)

Background

  • Hearthstone typically releases three Standard expansions per year; each main set has ~145 cards and is later followed by a mini-set that is not part of launch. Recent examples in 2025: Into the Emerald Dream (released March 25) and The Lost City of Un’Goro (released July 8). These illustrate sources used for verification (announcement post, patch notes, Card Library). (hearthstone.blizzard.com)

  • The Card Library supports filtering by expansion, class, tribe, card type (e.g., Hero), and mechanics (e.g., Secret), making it the authoritative place to confirm each criterion at launch. Card Library. (hearthstone.blizzard.com)

Considerations

  • Naming/keyword checks use the English client. If Blizzard localizes names differently, only the English Card Library is used for resolution. Card Library. (hearthstone.blizzard.com)

  • “Infinite” effects are rare and often controversial; the above definition aims to avoid combo-dependent interpretations. If multiple cards plausibly qualify, the poll fallback will be used for that single answer only.
