This market resolves to YES if Aaron Peskin, currently District 3 Supervisor, files paperwork with the SF Department of Elections to run for Mayor by the deadline (July 2024). Any subsequent withdrawals from the election will not affect the outcome of this market.
Peskin told the Chronicle Tuesday that the idea of trading his job at City Hall for time spent in his garden at home once his term as supervisor ends in January is “pretty appealing.” He didn’t rule out a run for mayor entirely but said he was not inclined to jump in the race, describing the role of mayor as “a particularly difficult job at this moment” due to the city’s overlapping struggles with the fentanyl crisis, property crime and downtown’s ailing economy.
“I’m not going to pretend I haven’t thought about it, and I’ve certainly been encouraged by various sectors of the community and individuals who I respect,” Peskin said. “It’s not totally out of the question, but it doesn’t feel like that’s what I want to do when I grow up.”
