The 2024 Candidates Tournament is scheduled to be played this April - a major chess tournament to determine the challenger for the World Chess Championship 2024. The tournament is planned to be played in a double round-robin format with eight participants, and there is a possibility of a two-way, three-way or more tie for the first place after all players had faced each other twice, in which case, according to the rules, some number of tie-break games will follow. The question is: will it happen? Will after 14 rounds of chess games the winner would still be unclear, so the tournament would proceed to those tie-breaking rounds?
The question resolves Yes if there is a tied score for the first place after the last (fourteenth) round of the “main” part of a tournament, doesn’t matter if it is a two-, three-way tie or more, and No otherwise. In case of some crazy circumstances I guess it will be N/A. Peace 🕊️
