Illinois senator Dick Durbin is the current senate minority whip. He's served for 5 terms, and would become the longest-serving senator in Illinois history if reelected. He has stated that he would announce his reelection (or, potentially, retirement) plans sometime in 2025. At time of writing, he's also in hot water with the Dems: he's one of 10 democratic senators who voted to prevent a government shutdown. There have been calls for him to be primaried in 2026 from moderates and leftists alike. Will he still end up as the longest-serving senator in Illinois history?
This will resolve to whichever of these happens first. For example, If Durbin loses in the primary AND THEN announces his retirement, it will fully resolve to primary. If Durbin dies or something weird happens, this resolves to None of these. A resolution for "Announces his retirement" just refers to the announcement itself, NOT the date of his actual retirement.
