Following the release of The Passenger and Stella Maris and the passing of Cormac McCarthy in 2023, does his literary estate hold any further completed (or near-completed) works that might see the light of day?

McCarthy’s notable works include Suttree, Blood Meridian, the Border Trilogy (All the Pretty Horses, The Crossing, and Cities of the Plain), No Country for Old Men, and The Road, along many other novels, plays, and screenplays.

This market will resolve to YES if any substantial work by Cormac McCarthy, unpublished prior to May 21, 2025, sees its official release before January 1, 2028. This includes, but is not limited to, novels, novellas, short story collections, plays, screenplays, or significant non-fiction, excluding correspondence. It will resolve to NO if no such work is published by the specified date.

Some works already known to be part of the archives include screenplays (Whales and Men, Cities of the Plain, and No Country for Old Men). Since these works have not been published they would qualify for the resolution of this market.

Official publication will be determined by announcements from his literary estate, Knopf (his primary publisher), or other widely recognized and reputable literary news outlets (e.g., The New York Times Book Review, Publishers Weekly). Resolution is based on release date, not announcements.

This market specifically excludes letters or minor fragments released for scholarly or archival purposes, unless they are presented as a complete, new literary work intended for general readership. Likewise, his three known short stories will only quality if they are republished along new works.
