Resolution criteria

This market will resolve to YES if Geert Wilders remains the sole natural person officially registered as a member of the Partij voor de Vrijheid (PVV) from the time of this market's creation until December 31, 2035, at 11:59 PM UTC.

It will resolve to NO if any of the following occur prior to January 1, 2036:

• Another natural person is officially registered as a member of the PVV.

• Geert Wilders dies, resigns, or otherwise ceases to be a registered member of the PVV.

• The PVV is officially dissolved, banned, or merged into another political party.

Clarifications:

• Formally, the PVV association has two registered members: Geert Wilders (as a natural person) and the Stichting Vrienden van de PVV (a foundation/legal person of which Wilders is the sole board member). For the purposes of this market, only natural persons (human beings) are considered.

• Reliable news outlets or official Dutch government registry/court rulings will be used to verify the membership status of the PVV.

Background

The Partij voor de Vrijheid (PVV), founded by Geert Wilders in 2005, is unique in Dutch politics for its highly centralized, closed organizational structure. Unlike traditional political parties, the PVV does not permit public membership, preventing internal democratic dissent or factional takeovers. Legally, the PVV is registered as an association with only two members: Geert Wilders himself and a foundation (Stichting Vrienden van de PVV) of which Wilders is the sole board member. This arrangement makes Wilders the party’s sole natural person member and gives him complete control over party leadership, candidates, and platforms.

This "one-member" structure has faced mounting political and legal pressure. The Dutch government is advancing the Wet op de politieke partijen (WPP, or Law on Political Parties). The proposed legislation, actively supported by parties like D66, GL-PvdA, and CDA, includes provisions that would legally require all political parties to maintain democratic internal structures and open membership systems. Additionally, in January 2026, internal divisions led to the departure of seven PVV MPs (forming the Markuszower Group), who publicly criticized the party's lack of internal democracy and called for a transition to a standard membership-based system.

This market asks whether Geert Wilders will successfully maintain this closed, one-member structure through the end of 2035, or if political, legal, or legislative changes will force the PVV to admit other natural persons as members.
