How many US service member will be killed in the month of February in the Middle East? Only fatalities during February will count.

Training exercises will not count, but deaths during operations will count whether they’re killed by direct fire or not.

For example, the 5 killed in a helicopter crash during training will not count. The Navy Seals who were lost during an operation will count.

I’ll avoid trading in this in case any grey areas come up.

FEBRUARY 2024 - Total Deaths (Army) - 1

@snarkyalyx it's a "non-hostile/pending" death. Not sure what "pending" means (not yet categorised?) but non-hostile means not attributable to enemy action - they died for some other reason. Whilst that still could include friendly fire in combat, it's more likely to be something unrelated to combat given we haven't heard any news reports.

@chrisjbillington Pending means that it is not yet determined what type of death it was (hostile or non-hostile).

@snarkyalyx @chrisjbillington It refers to this:

It was on February 11 and still nothing has been released aside from that it was a non-combat related death of 57 year old and the cause of his death is still under investigation. It’s tough to say for sure without knowing the details, but I don’t think this meets the criteria I’d set.

@traders The market closes in a few hours. There’s often a day or so lag between the event and the report, so I can wait a day to resolve. If anyone has strong opinions one way or another, let me know
