Update 21/10 NZT (post first semifinal):
Average PPG QF: 52.3 points
Average PPG SF (1 in the books): 50 points (NZ 44-6 Arg)
Currently in resolve YES position. Tomorrow expected to be a slightly tighter affair but it's still anyone's guess.
Update 17/10 NZT (post quarterfinal completion):
Average PPG 2023 Rugby World Cup quarterfinals: 52.3 points
Note: this number has only been exceeded 3 times in past semi finals. Now over to this weekend's semi finals.
One interesting piece of context. Much has been made this year about the timing and makeup of the draw.
Stacking of top ranked teams on one side means the current expectation is for tighter quarterfinals than semifinals. We'll see if the points per game is affected by that assumption. Margins at each round is another thing to keep an eye on.
