I don't really think multiple cohorts is the right solution. Some combination of more awards for lower spots and making the size of the top cohort smaller would probably be fine.
Also, as much as I gripe about finishing 11th last season (and currently being in 11th this season!), <1000 mana once a month is not really too enormous for most people in Masters.
Yeah the mana prizes themselves aren't too important, but IMO they do align with the personal satisfaction of placing high in a small cohort vs placing medium in a large cohort. Ultimately the goal is to keep the game fun for the most amount of people, to incentivize more and better prediction.
Like if someone is in 20th place, they're not going to win masters so they might stop caring about the game much. But if they were instead in 4th place in their 10 person cohort they might still be able to catch up!
@Joshua Yea I think that's solved by increasing the flex value of being in a higher cohort.
I want to look down at those worthless peons who demoted to Diamond last season and laugh, that's worth more to me than 160 mana or whatever the 11th place prize would be.
Like a badge next to our names in comments - they had that ugly wrapping around our profile pic for a bit, which I think was a good idea with a bad execution.
@firstuserhere i think the 1 top league system is great. Allows people to rise and relegate. this is the system that was eventually converged upon in football and other sports. They did try multiple top divisions but this one just works better. can write more in detail about it later
