I would find this surprising -- to my knowledge this isn't standard practice; and I can't see why she would be a particularly enticing SC pick, other than being mixed-race (which is certainly a factor, if ?sotomayor were to retire). Maybe I'm underating the symbolic import of her not being seen as 'failing' as a VP, were Biden to select another running mate

The thinking here:
- Biden is going to lose and so needs to step aside.
- VP Harris, the natural successor, is unpopular and would also likely lose.
- As a woman of color, shunting her aside for someone else is a bad look.
- A Supreme Court position saves face while opening the top of the ticket for someone who can win.
