Incumbent Ted Wheeler is not running. Appearing at debates listed on Wikipedia's page for the election have been City Commisioners Rene Gonzalez, Mingus Mapps, and Carmen Rubio and entrepreneur Keith Wilson. The only poll on the Wikipedia page ran in early August and listed those 4 candidates plus Liz Osthus, giving Rene Gonzalez a plurality of 21% at that time.
Portland is moving toward ranked choice voting, which may favor outsider candidates that don't fit along the standard political spectrum, although Portland's city elections are officially nonpartisan so political leanings are somewhat opaque.
Resolution set for end of November 2024 in case of issues counting the Ranked Choice votes.
