@Alice I like that the letters have a sharp, clean, origami-esque feel to them, but I agree that they don't really vibe with the rest of Manifold's personality, even if they make sense alongside Foldy. Out of curiosity, what did you have in mind?
I really don't think so. The current one looks so much better than that. Aside from unexplainable elements of personal preference, I think this proposal looks much less like a piece of origami and much more like an abstract shape. I would find it less memorable and recognizable, the gradients and lack of outline don't suggest paper to me. Plus I agree more or less with everything in David's and Cosmo's comments, excepting that I see no reason to explore alternatives to the crane. It's not relevant strictly but that doesn't bother me, and I don't see any reason to change a recognizable logo for something completely different.
I really would be most disappointed and disapproving of switching for this thing, I think it is drastically inferior
I'm not convinced.
I agree we should at some point do a rebranding, but this logo shares the same issues as our current one IMO. I'm about to be very critical, but I also happen to have 0 design experience :P
When small, the silhouette of this logo doesn't look great due to the gradients. The beak in particular starts to fade into the white background. I don't see this logo being more distinguishable at a distance/when small compared to our current one.
Our current logo is easy to invert to white/lighter colour when used on dark backgrounds, but I am not sure how achievable it is with this logo.
Lastly, it does just look a bit "old" and doesn't inspire thoughts of an innovative, novel social platform. It kinda just looks like a ripoff of a Twitter logo haha.
I think the first place to start would be deciding on 1-2 SOLID colours and using them. Then making sure it looks great on various coloured backgrounds including in small sizes. There's a reason most big brand logos avoid gradients.
I'm also not entirely convinced we should stick to a bird for our logo. It has 0 relevance to our product aside from being a play on words and at a stretch capturing the idea of having many markets. I love it as a mascot, but would be interested in exploring other logo design options.
For fun made dalle-mini create some 'Manifold Markets app logos" https://imgur.com/a/xf35h5v
@SirSalty I agree with all of these reasons, plus printing costs if we were to screen print shirts are more manageable with solid colors.
