Specifically, deaths occurring in South Africa from 00:00 SAST on 30 June 2026 through 23:59 SAST on 7 July 2026, provided that at least one credible source explicitly links the death to the protests, shutdown, anti-migrant unrest, or the official/security response to them.

Not counted are unrelated murders, accidents, or deaths that merely happen during the same period without a reported link to the protests/unrest. Injuries are not counted unless the person dies before final resolution.

If reports conflict, resolved using the most credible official or mainstream-media count available by 14 July 2026. Suitable sources include SAPS/government statements, Reuters, AFP, AP, BBC, GroundUp, News24, EWN, Daily Maverick, SABC, or comparable outlets.
