I was gifted some shredded dollars found on the sidewalk because the discoverer didn’t want to spend the effort cashing them in. Will I be able to get value for them?
Resolves YES if I am able to obtain new bills, or some other equally liquid form of value from my torn dollar bills. (Bank account credit, check, P2P payment, etc.) It is not prerequisite that the torn bills are forfeited. Obtained value can be less than $5.
Potential scenarios that would resolve YES: successful mutilated currency claim to BEP, trading them in at a bank, a stranger offering me money for them (unlikely)
Market will resolve NO at year end unless I have reason to think that something is actively in progress, such as a pending BEP claim. (6-36 months est.) Market close will be extended as needed in such cases.
Market will resolve NO if I lose the torn dollars and cannot get them back after a reasonable period of time.

(I am aware that the bottom left corner of the upper middle bill is wrong. It has been fixed)

I have not gotten a case number yet from the BEP. Supposedly this should be given after they obtain the mail. Not sure if there is additional processing happening that is slow or mail has been lost. I have emailed to confirm. I can make a missing mail claim with USPS after 7 business days, but it’s untracked letter mail. My previous success rate with missing mail requests has not been high.
@Quroe So far I have hit a bit of a roadblock—I can't fill out the BEP form 5283 online because the submission tool isn't working (it leaves some of the fields blank even if you provide info). I have sent an email requesting further guidance on the 29th but haven't heard back yet. For all I know they've all been fired.
@GleamingRhino rejected. While I have a significant fraction of the total bills the individual bill pieces were not big enough. Will fill out BEP form
