NO

DallE 3 is really great at making images like this. I've tried a lot in midjourney but haven't been able to.

If midjourney is able to make images at least this awesome [subjective] then YES immediately, otherwise NO.

You should submit prompts and I'll judge. I want this to be true. It can be "better" in other ways than those listed below. And this timespan should also cover the release period for the next version of MJ, v6, which is supposed to be a big improvement, too.

What's the difference between DE3 and MJ v5.2 right now?

  • DE3 images have more local style rules - different sections can have quite different brush strokes, main colors, etc

  • DE3 images look "deeper" in horizon/foreground/etc.

    • Although mj composition is amazing, DE3 still wins for me.

  • MJ images can't have "diversity" internally

  • The "complexity" of the DE3 images just seems a lot higher. They seem less compressible. The MJ images look basically like the whole thing is just a sprayed out version of a single core concept.

  • [unrelated to this issue] DE3 basically hits 80% of the time; i.e. it's almost always awesome at least what you see of it. MJ regularly generates 4 images and while often 2 or 3 are good, it's not a base 80% hit rate.

the hills are very much in focus although i don't know what's going on in them (are those sand traps). the horizon mountains are great. The overall color palette is really great. This could be a real work I think. I'd like the towers to punch harder and tone down the visual weight of the rest of the image.

@DanielPittaluga this a good image for comparison

mj is absolutely awesome but my issues fall into two main areas:

1) the actual logical connectivity of the image (fore/background, etc.) and style relationships are not perfect. Both this and the original tower have problems with doors connecting to paths, but in this mj it's really serious. If you try to imagine the image as a series of copy and paste actions, it's very easy. i.e. a green hillside, paste over an extreme foreground wheat filter, three towers, sea in distance. notice that the connective areas between them are all very weak. even the meadow between the stone+wood tower and the mixed-up tower on the left is not really visually clear. what is the flattish slightly rising to the left diagonal path actually doing? it has no source or end. similarly with the other tower relationships and the connection to the sea.

compare dalle3 and the foreground is smoothly connected from rippling waves, rocks with multi-layer tide marks, low moss, steep moss and silhouetted alien flowers, to the tower. and the towers themselves clearly show depth and perspective

2) tone - I have a hard time in mj not generating too-silly images that are hyper detailed at the "topic" level; ie they don't respect the subjects. de3 images ARE hyper detailed yet they also keep focus where it belongs and draw your eye-line around smoothly. I think that's why I like them so much, because there is a ton to look at, but you also can cut them down to not an overwhelmingly large number of top-level "topics" they are about.

@DanielPittaluga fair enough, we have different tastes. I did 40k mj mages but maonlybise de3 now because of the better prompt understanding and the API. I love mj still tho

The 2nd image is super great to me, fine art style with details. Mj lately is too cluttered. I love the way it varies compositions a to

Have you tried ideogram yet though. It's state of the art in lots of ways now. Just brilliant I wish they had an API

@Ernie where do you publish images? I've got tons of comparison image threads on my Twitter

@DanielPittaluga yeah try text. It's incredible. Also for people it can make nonclones and do great stuff, people look like normal humans not tv models

@DanielPittaluga cool I maintain mass image downloaded and annotaters for mj and de3 also. Will check it out
