Resolution criteria

This market resolves YES if Opeth's next studio album after The Last Will and Testament (2024) (no live album, no single, no EP, no solo artist release) is released with Swedish lyrics as the primary or sole version. The album must be officially released by the band. If the album is released in both Swedish and English versions (like In Cauda Venenum), it resolves YES.

Background

The Last Will and Testament is Opeth's fourteenth studio album, released in November 2024. Their previous album, In Cauda Venenum (2019), was released in two versions: a Swedish-language version and an English-language version. In Cauda Venenum was the first Opeth album that frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt wrote and sang in his native tongue. Åkerfeldt originally intended In Cauda Venenum to be in Swedish only, but at the last minute decided to add an English version because "there might be people who have problems with [there only being a Swedish version]."

Considerations

The Last Will and Testament is entirely in English, suggesting Åkerfeldt may have reverted to English after the bilingual approach of In Cauda Venenum. However, his stated preference for the Swedish version of In Cauda Venenum and his openness to non-English lyrics indicate Swedish-language releases remain a possibility for future albums.
