Use the advance estimate of U.S. retail and food services sales, adjusted for seasonal variation and holiday/trading-day differences but not for price changes, and the percent change from April 2026 to May 2026 in the first May 2026 release. Resolve NO if that headline month-over-month change is 0.4% or lower. Do not use retail trade sales only, retail inventories, ex-auto sales, control-group sales, year-over-year sales, not-seasonally-adjusted changes, or later revisions unless Census corrects the initial May 2026 release before resolution. If the May 2026 Advance Monthly Retail Trade Report is delayed, wait for the first Census release of the May 2026 figure unless there is no Census May 2026 advance retail-sales release by June 30, 2026, in which case resolve N/A.
