At time of market creation, a law has passed the legislature, awaiting action from the governor to legalize human composting. View current status here.
Resolves YES if there is an active commercial human composting operation in Maryland by the end of 2025.
Resolves NO if the governor takes no action, vetos, or if no businesses set up shop to accept and compost human remains by the end of 2025.
Legislation is also close to passage in Delaware.
According to NPR:
Seven states have legalized human composting: Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Nevada, Vermont, and New York.
It took California lawmakers three tries to pass a law to do the same, but it won't take effect until 2027.
Human composting became fully legal on May 9, 2024. This market will resolve YES if someone sets up to provide these services in Maryland by the end of 2025 (currently I am only able to find companies operating out of Washington state).
