This resolves to the highest rated chess player that is not Magnus Carlsen on the FIDE rating list published at the start of January 2024. I may resolve this preemptively based on the December 31st live chess ratings list (https://2700chess.com/) unless it is so close that waiting for the official list to come out is necessary.

In case of a tie (yes, even if one player is ahead by fractions of a point on the live rating list, I will go off the rounded official elo rating on the January 2024 rating list), the tiebreak goes to the player with the higher rating on the December 2023 rating list, and if that is still tied, then November 2023, then October 2023, and so on and so forth until a winner is declared.

If multiple people submit the same name/answer, only the first version will count.

Seems locked to Fabi at this point. I don't think anyone within 50 points of him has any tournaments scheduled for the rest of the year. (Other than the world rapid and blitz, which don't count)

Ding is severely underrated

Edit: I guess he's not so active so it makes sense

I am a huge Hikaru fan, and he has been playing very well recently: but he has had his wedding directly before the FIDE cup and he is very unlikely to win it. (Magnus, Hikaru, Ian, Ding, Wesly, Firouzja, Giri, and Rapport have never won it)

What if Magnus changes their name, and is still the best player?

@JimHays then you may submit Magnus's new name as an option
