Democratic Sen. Bob Casey says of Austin's initial silence on hospitalization "there's no way it's acceptable" — "The Takeout"

@MickBransfield Oh no, Bob Casey!

@Mirek if Democrats are publicly criticizing Austin then he has problems. But it's the Friday before a holiday weekend, so if he gets pushed out at all it'll happen today.

From the New York Times:

"Mr. Biden has signaled that he does not plan to fire Mr. Austin because of the incident despite calls by some Republicans to do so, but people close to the White House described a deep frustration and bafflement among some in the president’s team."

What a weird situation.

@Arky turns out even his deputy didn't know? Seems like the kind of decision that just went wildly out of control. Thing is he's good at the job, enjoys the role and no one expects for everyone to be told but really there's no excuse for not telling the boss or the person who would be expected to take over your duties that you'll be unavailable due to a personal health matter. Like you said a weird situation.

@AnthonyPettit what if he submits a resignation on Friday but it doesn't take effect until later?

@MickBransfield perhaps my question was phrased poorly, that's my bad, apologies. In the scenario you envisage he would still be Secretary of defence and a cabinet member after his announcement but before it takes effect. If he says it takes effect on midday Monday then my question will have been phrased exceptionally badly.

Confirming this is by Monday January 15th
