I have an iPad Air but I think it'd be nice to have a bigger (12.9") device.

I realise you're already using an iPad, but I honestly think using pen and paper is better for doing maths than an iPad; nicer (physical) user experience, lighter to carry around, often more ergonomic, no need to charge your paper pad up, less stress involved with potentially losing it, better recall of the content you've written down. Get some nice pens and a high-GSM paper pad, have a nice time, and save yourself $1–2k!

I personally love microgel pens like the Uni-ball Signo UM-151 0.38mm or the Platinum Preppy fountain pen for maths — the fine line means it's super easy to write a fraction on a single line.

Of course, you might think it'll be worth getting an iPad Pro for other reasons, but I expect you should ponder about whether it's worth it for more than 3 days before taking the plunge.

@finnhambly Interesting! One of the main benefits, though, of using an iPad is being able to easily share my work.

@Alana Hmm yeah well if it's a workflow you're used to then maybe it'll make sense. I've always been happy scanning or taking pictures of my notes, but I rarely share my handwritten stuff!

@finnhambly +1 on getting nice pens. Huge paper might also be worth a try.

@Tassilo this is really cool, going to try getting a huge paper pad now!
