@Aella Yes, that’s likely true. Or at least part of the story. I suspect there’s a bimodal situation where people who have taken an official IQ test did so because there was signs that they were either highly gifted or highly impaired (a particularly bad score can get one disability assistance where I am from).
Datapoint: in Scott Alexander's annual survey the average reported IQ is consistently around 130-135 (IIRC)
