Originally appearing in Mahou Girls Pretty Cure, Mirai and Liko are the main protagonists of the 13th installment of the Pretty Cure franchise. The overall plot of the franchise is about magical girls, called Pretty Cures/Precure/Cures, fighting villains who tend to be outside invaders attempting to either conquer Earth, destroy it, or extract a specific resource.

One of the major themes of the season is the bond between the two characters, with some of it moving into romantic subtext. The biggest examples of this is how the third Cure of the season Kotoha Hanami is often referred to as their child and how Mirai had to force feed Liko a potion via their mouths, with it being framed as a kiss. However, the last sequel spin off for the Pretty Cure franchise didn’t put any of the Cures into a relationship.

The Sequel series is scheduled to air in January 2025.
