This market resolves YES if France’s primary energy use per person in calendar year 2040 is greater than 30,000 kWh per person per year, and NO otherwise.
The resolution source will be Our World in Data’s “Primary energy use per person” series for France, using the first published 2040 value that is based on finalized annual energy data.
The relevant metric is total primary energy supply per capita, measured in kWh/person/year. It includes commercially traded fossil fuels, nuclear energy, and modern renewables, and excludes traditional biomass.
For reference, France’s value in 2025 was approximately 37,613 kWh/person/year. Its historical peak was approximately 52,066 kWh/person/year in 2004.
If Our World in Data changes the name or URL of the series but continues publishing a substantively equivalent metric, the successor series will be used. If no 2040 value is published by December 31, 2043, the market should resolve based on the closest authoritative equivalent dataset using the same concept of primary energy supply per capita.
