Resolution criteria

This market will resolve based on the winner of the official adidas Golden Ball (the player of the tournament) at the 2026 Men's FIFA World Cup, which concludes with the final on July 19, 2026.

The market will resolve to one of the following three options based on the birthplaces of the award winner's biological parents (father and mother) relative to the national team they represented at the tournament (referred to as the "home country"):

  • Yes, both parents were born in home country: Both biological parents of the winner were born in the country/territory represented by the player's national team.

  • Yes, one parent was born in home country: Exactly one of the biological parents was born in the country/territory represented by the player's national team, while the other parent was born in a different country/territory.

  • No: Neither biological parent was born in the country/territory represented by the player's national team.

Definitions & Rules:

  • World Cup MVP: Defined exclusively as the recipient of the FIFA-awarded adidas Golden Ball for the 2026 tournament.

  • Home Country: The specific nation represented by the national football team the player played for during the 2026 tournament. For constituent countries of the UK (e.g., England), the home country is defined specifically as that territory (e.g., England), not the United Kingdom as a whole.

  • Birth Country: The country or territory where the biological parent was born.

  • Verification: Resolution will be based on reliable, publicly available records, including official player biographies, reputable sports media profiles, national registries, or direct public statements by the player. If the birthplaces of both biological parents cannot be conclusively verified within 14 days of the World Cup final, this market will resolve N/A.

Background

The 2026 Men's FIFA World Cup is underway across North America. Many top international footballers represent countries different from where one or both of their parents were born due to diverse multicultural backgrounds. For example, depending on who wins the Golden Ball:

  • Lionel Messi (Argentina): Both parents (Jorge Messi and Celia Cuccittini) were born in Argentina. (Resolves to Yes, both parents were born in home country)

  • Kylian Mbappé (France): His father Wilfried was born in Cameroon, and his mother Fayza was born in France. (Resolves to Yes, one parent was born in home country)

  • Michael Olise (France): Born in England to a Nigerian father and a French-Algerian mother. (Resolves to No, as neither parent was born in France)
