This will resolve Yes if Pope Francis finally meets Chinese President Xi Jinping during their coinciding visits to Kazakhstan this September.

Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit Kazakhstan next week in his first trip abroad since the COVID-19 pandemic. Kazakh Foreign Ministry spokesman Aibek Smadiyarov said on September 5 that the Chinese leader will pay an official visit to Nur-Sultan on September 14.
After that, Xi is scheduled to travel to the Uzbek city of Samarkand, where he will participate in a summit of the China-led Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) scheduled for September 15-16. During the summit he is expected to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin for the first time since Russia launched its ongoing unprovoked invasion of Ukraine on February 24.
The Chinese head of state will thus be in the capital on the same day as Pope Francis, who is traveling there September 13-15 to attend an interfaith summit organized by the Kazakhstan government. The coinciding visits of Francis and Xi come as the Holy See and China are in negotiations over the renewal of a provisional agreement on the appointment of bishops in China.

Sept.14: Pope Francis seen in wheelchair in trip to Kazakhstan, open to meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping
@stormtk293 "Xi is expected to land in Kazakhstan on Wednesday on his own diplomatic trip, raising questions whether the two world leaders could meet.
Pope Francis said he remains open to meeting with Chinese leaders, but that he has no news or information about a possible face-to-face." said by Fox News.
I think this will happen because of the deep respect the CCP leadership has always had for the Pope ever since Mao, who was obsessed with the idea of commanding supranational power over all Chinese, both inside China and abroad. This is something I think about a lot when contemplating the future of the CCP.
@BTE I think both sides will have guys working on communication during this visit but never go public. Just one day before the news of Xi’s upcoming visit to Kazakhstan was made public, the former vice president of Taiwan met with Pope Francis at the Vatican. As Beijing views Taiwan as a rebel province and pressures on day by day. Can't imagine what could Pope and Xi discuss or agree at this moment :)
@stormtk293 Nobody on the mainland knows about that though, right? Also, Xi will be with Putin, who is definitely someone I bet Francis would seek out if the opportunity presented. I think there could be a multi-lateral angle here that has Xi arbitrate a peace mission for the Pope and Putin. Talk about a foreign policy win going into the 20th Congress.
@BTE Could be a possible scenario. Such move may means a deal has been made already or around the corner i suppose.
