Resolution criteria
This market resolves to "Yes" if the user's stock portfolio declines by more than 1% on August 1, 2025. The percentage change should be calculated based on the portfolio's total value at the close of trading on July 31, 2025, compared to the close on August 1, 2025. If the decline is 1% or less, or if the portfolio increases in value, the market resolves to "No."
Background
On August 1, 2025, major U.S. stock indices experienced significant declines:
Dow Jones Industrial Average: fell 1.44%
S&P 500: dropped 1.70%
Nasdaq Composite: lost 2.29%
These declines were triggered by new U.S. tariffs on imports from countries including Canada, Brazil, India, and Taiwan, as well as weaker-than-expected payroll data indicating a slowdown in job growth. (reuters.com)
Considerations
The impact on your personal portfolio depends on its composition. Portfolios heavily weighted in technology stocks may have been more affected, given the Nasdaq's larger decline. Conversely, portfolios with a diverse asset allocation might have experienced less volatility. It's essential to review your specific holdings to determine the exact percentage change.
